DIY Flower Hair Clips
As part of our plant themed activities for the week my daughter and I “dissected” silk flowers. There is no better way to reassemble them than on a barrette. These are my daughter’s favorite accessories (well, after dangly necklaces).

What you will need:
- Hot glue and gun
- Ribbon
- Beads
- Silk flowers
- Scissors
- Assortment of hairclips. We purchased a variety of aligator clips, french barrettes and other clips at our local craft store.

Instructions:
You will want to cover your french and alligator clips with ribbon. Be sure to start at one end and work the ribbon around. In the alligator clips, it is sometimes nice to have a bit of glue in the inside of the clip. You don’t want to glue the two prongs together, but allow a really fine line of glue to dry, this will help “grip” those really fine baby hairs. After your clips are covered, you’ll want to dissect your silk flowers. This is the part my kids love helping with and doing for me. Once you have the petals separated, you’ll want to layer and glue them on your clip. I use a pile of beads as the center of the flower.

Ways to incorporate learning:
You can discuss colors, parts of the flowers as you take them apart, pattern recognition as you reassemble your flower… and safety as your kiddos get to watch as you have fun!
