29 May 2009 One Comment

This is a frugal summer treat, great for holidays like July 4th or another summer outting.  Your children will love creating and eating their icecream!

Make Your Own Ice Cream~

icecream What you need: 2 cups heavy whipping cream, 2 cups half and half, ½ cup of sugar, 2 teaspoons of vanilla, 1 bag of ice, coarse salt, pint sized Ziploc bags and gallon sized Ziploc bags.

What you do: Combine the first 4 ingredients in a bowl. Add ½ a cup of mixture to a pint sized bag. Take a gallon sized bag and fill with ice and ½ cup of salt. Place the pint sized bag inside the gallon bag. Wrap the bag in a towel, and hand over to the little ones. Have the kids shake the bag continuously for at least 5 minutes. The result will be their own handmade, rich and creamy vanilla ice cream!

Looks delicious. I got some ice cream salt to make ice cream with, but haven’t gotten to do it yet. I’ll be posting it on my blog when I do.
