Organizing the Home, On a Dime!

My house has clutter, lots of clutter and I am often in awe of some of those super organized mommas!  Nicole from Restrained Chaos has offered to guest post a few of her organization tips… I love them!  They are cheap and easy!  Hope you can take and glean from them as I have.  Here is Nicole in her own words:
.
Now, I can’t give the key to total organization. This is not because it’s a secret from Martha Stewart’s vault or hidden in a remote (and very clean) monastery …

Tiny Storage Solutions for Cluttered Spaces

My husband came in and told me that I was taking this ‘decluttering thing’ too far when he caught me vacuuming out my tool boxes. He told me it was against the tool welding code to vacuum tool boxes in the first place. If you have a tool box, it is supposed to be messy and have dust. lol!

But alas… my tool boxes now have no dust. Each one (one for garage and one for house) has a multi head screwdriver (yet another “no-man’s” idea… according to most men I …

Storage Ideas: Cleaning and Ridding Your home of Clutter

I don’t know about you, but my storage areas were seriously lacking in organization or neatness in this house. Usually, about 6 months in to a house, I go through and put up hooks, baskets, buckets, buy lg storage Tupperware, etc so the spaces look decent and can be used.  That 6 months is quickly coming to a close and my storage areas could use some serious help. My garage is my pantry, garden shed, school supply closet, and camping/travel equipment storage area.  It has a lot of jobs and …

Using a Binder to Organize your Home

I am a lover of paper. Paper and water. I waste both continuously (recycling constantly, of course). I love a good book, and a long bath. I love hot showers and three ring binders filled with paper that I have printed out. It is one of my many flaws. I still haven’t gotten use to this information age for keeping all of the ideas I love on the compact glory of the computer. I am an avid user of binders. And I am not sure I will ever change… I …

How to Organize Your Life/Learning with Binders

Binders are a great way to organize and showcase what your children are learning and doing.  The binder method that is used in The Well Trained Mind is something that I have always thought was a great idea…. but for me, it lacked the usefulness of a portfolio when looking back on the year.

Right now each of the kids have three binders (FYI; I LOVE binders!) filled with their work in different subjects. But by the time the year is over, I want to have it all condensed into one …

I was thrilled, a friend showed me several ways to make my own cleaners.  Thanks Melitsa!  These cleaners are biodegradable, made with less harsh chemicals (most you can eat!), and is a ton cheaper!  I will definitely be making my own batches in the next week or two!

What you will need:

Hot Water
Vinegar
Baking Soda
Clear Dish Soap
Fels Naptha Bar
Washing Soda
Borax
And containers (spray bottles, old laundry detergent tubs, etc.)
Essential oils; like lavender, vanilla or cinnamon.  They are optional, to give cleaners a fresh scent.

With them you can make the following cleaners:

Basic Cleaning Spray
Disinfectant …

Clean your House Quickly: 15 Minuet Chore Buster

This tip comes from Esther and it has helped revolutionize my not-so-clean, but hygenic and fun house.  She said to set aside 15 minuets each morning and afternoon to do a chore.  Put all your unusal chores into a jar and pull one out.  That is the one you get to work on for 15 minuets and if you finish it before the 15 minuets are over you pick another one.   I am amazed at how much I am able to accomplish in a mere 15m.

Here are some of …

Organize your Cloth Diapers with a Shoe Holder

Cloth diapers are bulky and hard to store in an organized, neat fashion. I absolutely love the tip from Lauren in Maine. She rolls her diapers and stuffs them into an over-the-door shoe organizer. Her wet sack hangs from the door knob and viola, a tidy cloth diapering system!

I’ve recently been sucked into the world of coupons and have TONS. I didn’t know what to do with them and had them scattered everywhere. In a drawer, in my wallet, a few in my purse and a couple random ones in my car. I took this tip for a website and ADORE this system! I turn to my “coupon binder” every week before I go grocery shopping.
Buy a binder, separators (with tabs), and some baseball card holders and VOILA! Insta-coupon binder. It’s been especially helpful because I have them …
